Dear Mr Griffin,
I wish to complain about a lunch coupon that I bought last week from your web page. I am really disappointed with the food and the service that I received in the restaurant.
First of all, the restaurant is far from any public transportation, so we had to walk for an hour to get to the restaurant. When we got in, we were forced to sit on a table next to the toilets although there were better free tables in the room, a strong unpleasant smell was coming from the toilets during the whole lunch. Also the waiter was very rude to us, we felt like we were being an inconvenience for him.
In addition, we waited for a half an hour for our first course; the food was already cold, and raw. The steak I ordered was undone and blood red on the inside.
I hope you understand my situation and it would be nice if we can reach an agreement or if I got a refund.
I look forward to your reply and I am thankful for your attention.
Yours sincerely,

Ferran Juncà Juanola

Interview

-Interviewer: Hi everyone and welcome again o Stay Tuned radio program. Today we are talking about those professions that are dying out. John, a farmer from Utah, is joining us, welcome John and thank you for accepting our invitation.

-John: You’re welcome; it’s my pleasure to be here!

-Interviewer: So tell me, why did you decide to become a farmer?

-John: Well, my family has always lived in the Country, and all the family men have grown crops in the farm for ages, while the women were taking care of the house and the children. So, I guess that since I was born, I was destined to become a farmer, and I love it.

-Interviewer: Do you think that fifty years ago your job was more important than it’s today?

-John: Yes, it was a lot more important, and it was worth doing it and it was a full-time job. Now you can’t barely live with what you earn, it’s a shame!

-Interviewer: Don’t you think that the new farming methods and machines have replaced the work of many farmers?

-John: Yes, I do. But I think it’s a result of the progress, the old times have gone, and we need to adapt ourselves to the future, if you stay stuck to the past you’re done, that’s why only the farmers who changed their minds have been able to subsist.

-Interviewer: Well, thank you John for sharing your point of view with us, but sadly our time’s gone, it has been really interesting.

-John: It’s been my pleasure!

Dear Anna,

Thank you for your letter, which I got yesterday. I liked to hear from you. The news about your interview is very interesting. Did you say it you got the job? I hope so. I was sorry to hear that you have been burgled again. How many times has this happened to you? Five hundred pounds is a lot of money. Does the police know who did it?

You wanted me to tell you what I am doing in Edinburgh, and how my life is here. Well, I'm enjoying it very much. The course is good, but is harder than I had thought. At first I hadn't any friends, but soon I met the people who are in my same department. I spend all the time trying to buy the books which I need to read for my course, although it is difficult to find them, I'm sure I'll find them soon. When I buy them, I'll be very busy!

I'm finishing now. A friend of mine must write a letter in French, and I offered to help him. Write me or phone me soon. If you ever go to Scotland, you have to visit me, but remember to take warm clothes! It's so cold the weather here!

Best wishes,

Serge

Writing 3: Opinion Essay

Nowadays sports have become one of the most important trending topics of our society. We’re living in a world where the Barça winning the Champions is more important than the discovery of a new galaxy or the cure of an illness. I think that this ridiculous trend of giving so much importance to sports is the reason why some sportsmen earn such a huge amount of money.

In this world where we live, sadly, money is the reason of everything. So, if sport clubs or sport federations own those fortunes it’s because they have a massive support from their fans. If there weren’t so many fans of the sports clubs or teams, they surely wouldn’t possess those quantities of money. However, I don’t think that it’s unethical the fortune that some of them earn, because the people have provided them with this money. If our society had focused more on important things to improve our knowledge (or to make a better world) like science, charity or literature, probably we would have become a better civilisation.

Also I find it ridiculous when someone complains about the money that sportsmen earn compared to a doctor, for example, but then this person is an absolute fan of a football team, and spends hundreds of euros going to the matches or buying merchandise instead of giving some money to the AIDS foundation, for instance.

In conclusion, I don’t think that it’s fair that some sportsmen earn so much money, but it’s the will of our society, all this money comes from supporters. While our society targets don’t change, sports will keep moving millions of Euros.

Vídeo review: Every kid needs a champion

This video is from TED talks, hosted by Rita Pierson who talks about kids and education.
First of all Rita introduces herself, as a person who has had a lot of contact with education, from his family and from his job. Then she talks about the importance of the relationship between teachers and students, she claims: "kids don't learn from people who they don't like". Consequently, she explains some examples of her classes where she motivate the students and she tried to establish a relationship between the students and Rita.
Then she tells that her mother always tried to motivate and empathize with her students, and at the day of her funeral, there was so many of her students, now grown up, thanking her job she did on them when she was a teacher.
Finally, she says that all the kids needs that teacher to be their champion, that champion who cheers them up when they fail, and makes them feel unique and take off the best part of them.

I think Rita is right, I agree with everything she says, it's more easy and more productive for students be a part of the class where they feel that they are important and respected, also for the teacher, than if the teacher just is limited to explain the lesson and doesn't give that importance to establish a relationship with the students.
